5th Grade Students Getting Spanked by the Teacher

  Hello Readers,
After reading the article,"Spanking Students May Soon Be Banned in Missouri". I have learned a lot about students in schools getting spanked in different schools, but in other schools they don't allow it because they think that it's not right to do. First, is how a fifth grade teacher named Jennifer  Kavanaugh says that she doesn't want kids to be spanked for misbehaving. Second, is deciding whether to spank kids for misbehaving or to do something different for the misbehavior. Lastly, is to reward kids for being good or to do something else when a kid is doing the wrong thing.

A Teacher wanting the spanking to stop
First of all, a fifth  grade teacher named Jennifer Kavanaugh who has been a teacher for 13 years says that she wants the spanking on 5th grade students to stop. I think this teacher wants the spanking on kids to stop because she thinks it's not okay  to do on students that are misbehaving. Too add on, there are teachers from different schools that also want the spanking to stop.  Jennifer Kavanaugh says "Corporal punishment  does not make for a more peaceful, happier child". "She never used corporal punishment herself, but she knows there are teachers across the state who do". ... "About 30 of her fifth-grade students attended a hearing Wednesday on a bill that would outlaw corporal punishment in the state". Jennifer wants the spanking to stop because the school she works is a school that does allow corporal punishment on students.

Deciding whether to Keep Spanking kids for Misbehaving or doing something Different
Next, I think that it's now okay to spank kids for misbehaving because maybe, the student getting spanked will tell their parents that they are being spanked at school.  Another reason, is how  the parents won't let their child to go to that school anymore if the teacher is  spanking him or she. School is a place that kids get to learn not to get spanked by the teacher for misbehaving . "Missouri is one of 19 states that still allows corporal punishment in schools". "District officials believe there are better ways the react to bad behavior". "They range from calling parents to suspending students or expelling students". Different schools that allow the spanking to students, but in other schools they think it's not okay to do. "Lorenzo Rizzi says "Corporal punishment doesn't change behavior".

Reward Students for being Good or Deal with Kids with Bad Behavior
Lastly, I think teachers from all over the world should reward kids that are being good and doing the right thing. Too add on, I think that it's not okay to spank any kid for misbehaving because the student might not want to go to school for the teacher spanking them. "Jennifer says, she wants to see teachers switch to rewarding students for good behavior". ..."About 184, 500 students were physically punished". "The lasted states to outlaw it were New Mexico in 2011 and in Ohio in 2009". "However, many districts in St. Louis don't area don not permit".  The districts in St. Louis that don't allow it are "Clayton, Lindbergh, River Gardens, and St. Louis itself". If students are getting spanked by the teacher then their parents should place them in a new school where the teachers don't allow corporal punishment.

Your Thinking
Quote(s) to support your thinking
Jennifer Kavanaugh a fifth grade teacher wanting the spanking on students to stop because she thinks it is not okay to do that to a child that is misbehaving at school.
I think this teacher wants the spanking to stop because spanking a kid for misbehaving wouldn’t make them happy. Also that maybe teachers from different schools think that it should stop too.
“Corporal punishment does not make for a more peaceful, happier child,” she said” “She never used corporal punishment herself,  but she knows there are teachers across the state who do”
Deciding whether to spank kids for misbehaving or doing something different
I think that it’s not okay to spank kids for misbehaving because if the kid tells their parents that the teachers are spanking he or she, the parents wouldn’t let their child go to that school anymore.
“Missouri is one of 19 states that still allows corporal punishment in schools” “ District officials believe there are better ways to react to bad behavior”. “They range from calling in parents to suspending or expelling students”
Reward students for being good or keep dealing with bad behavior with students
I think teachers from all over world should reward students for being good and doing something else when a student is misbehaving.
“Jennifer says she wants to see teachers switch to rewarding students for good behavior” “...about 184,500 students were physically punished”

Matter: Mass and Weight

According to Discovery Education I learned more about weight and mass. I am going to tell you  all about what I learned.
There are different types of matter like solids, liquids, and gases. All this matter has two things that are in common. First thing that is in common of all this matter is they all contain mass in them. The reason why mass is one of the properties is that all objects contain mass in them. Second property is how objects have volume in them. Volume is one of the properties because it is how objects take up the space that is in it. "Matter can be anything that takes up space". Here is a link.

The way that mass is different from weight is that mass is measured in a balance scale. Weight is measured by a spring scale. Mass is how objects take up space. "Objects with more mass have more weight because the gravitational attraction to Earth is stronger". The weight is the pull between the mass and the Earth's mass. If you were to go to space your  weight would be lighter because there is less gravity, but the mass will stay the same. A link of where this answer came from.

Weight is measured by a scale. Mass is measured on a balance scale. Weight can also be measured by pounds or ounces. Mass can be measured either by kilograms or grams. Mass is also something that an object is made of. Weight is something that is important to do because when you want to know if you have the right amount of something. "Weight is a measure of how gravity affects an objects mass". This answer came from the explore tab in Discovery Education.

If anybody were to go some place else besides Earth like the moon, the mass in your body wouldn't change because the mass stays the same wherever you go. Your weight would be different because there is less force of gravity. I will put a link of where this answer came from. "Weight is different from gravity because weight is when you weigh yourself in pounds or in ounces". Gravity is the force on Earth that keeps you down on Earth so you won't float in the air. I will provide a link of where I got this information.

Mass of an object is always equal to the mass of all the parts. Example, if you found every piece of an object, added every single piece to the total amount of a toy, the mass will be the same. ..."The more mass an object has, the more it weighs". If you wanted to be lighter you need to go somewhere that gravity's force is weaker, like outer space or the moon. Here is a link.

The least popular aren't the only targets in school bullying, study says

Dear Readers, I finished a article titled "The least popular aren't the only targets in school bullying, study says. This article has three main points. The first main point is about how some popular kids are getting bullied at school. Second main point is students from different schools getting bullied. Third main point is that students get bullied from Facebook and home.

Some popular kids from schools getting bullied
" Nearly a fifth of teens are bullied". "Only the most popular  kids at the very top of high school social ladder avoid it". "... The king and queen of the prom are safe from bullying". I think that the student getting bullied tells the adult, the adult doesn't do nothing about it. So the student feels like it's okay to get bullied. The bully may feel bad about themselves.

Students getting bullied at home and school
"Bullied kids can suffer from feelings of sadness, increased worries and thoughts of killing themselves". Most people would think that the least popular kids were the only targets". I think that the bully bullies other kids because the bully feel bad and they want other people to feel their pain of what that person is going through at home or at school.

Students getting bullied on Facebook and at home
"They may have tough lives at home and bully others to move up the "social ladder". ... The "drama" that's often discussed about tennage relantionships might be taken seriously, by students and parents. I think that if kids get bullied a home they will be bad about themselves of who they are. Also that kids get bullied at home, turn out to bully other kids at their school because the bully feels bad.

Homework: Too Little or Too Much? It Depends

Dear Readers, I finished reading a article titled "Homework:Too Little or Too Much? It Depends". There are three main points that the author supports with details. The first main point is about a student named Imani Downing from Pittsburgh  says that she feels students should have homework in every class because there will be more learning going on. The second main point is about another student from Pittsburgh Amma Ababio says she figures that she gets a lot of homework and does it between 5 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.. Different student from Pittsburgh that goes to a high school named Jermalle Johns also says that he does't get as much homework because it only takes an hour to get done.

A student that goes to a high school in Pittsburgh.
A student named Imani Downing says "I feel like we should have homework in every class". Also "allow ''more learning" and "a better chance to understand things". I think this student is trying to say that she wants to tell her teachers and the principle that there should be homework in every class. This student wants to have more learning in her school. Also this student only gets one piece of homework in just one class. I also think that this student would like to have more homework because she wants to learn things that she doesn't know about.

Another student that goes to “Pittsburgh Allderdice High School
Another student named Amma Ababio says ... figures she does homework from about 5 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. on school nights". Also "her computer is off except for research and she even does homework while she eats dinner. I think that this student gets more homework than others because she gets homework in every class."That makes them less prepared for college". I also think that this student wants to have less homework because so she doesn't have to spend time on it before it's midnight, to get enough sleep to go to school.

A student that goes to a school in Pittsburgh
Different student that is named Jermalle Johns says "maybe and hour on homework tops". He "gets is done because it's another that helps him get an A". I think this student doesn't get a lot of homework because he says that it only takes him a hour to finish his homework."High school seniors, at least, seem to be doing less work than they used to"."That makes them less prepared for college". I also think that if students don't get the homework that they need to get then they are not going to learn the things that they need to learn.

Respiratory System

The function that the lungs have is that when you take a breath the air travels to the lungs and three important things happen. The air gets to the lungs and while it’s there three important things happen the first one is the air is cleaned, moistened, and heated. When the lungs are done doing the three things the air goes to the heart so it can get pumped to the rest of your body that need oxygen.

The respiratory system helps the body by it to bring oxygen from the air into your body and pushes carbon dioxide out of your body. Another way the respiratory system helps the body is by having passageways for air to come into your body and for air to get out of your body. The first air passage way to the body is the nose to take air into your body. The mouth is a passageway that takes a waste material called carbon dioxide out of your body.

The first place that air travels to get to your body is either your mouth or your nose. When that happens the air travels to the lungs it gets warm, moist, and clean. Then the diaphragm pulls the air downward causing air to flow to the nose, mouth, and the trachea into the throat then the bronchi that branches in the lungs creating little air sacs. These air sacs are called alveoli that contain lots of capillaries. After that, oxygen goes away from the air and travels to the alveoli  into your blood cells in the capillaries. Then carbon dioxide is created and it moves from the blood back into the alveoli. Diaphragm moves back up pushes the air out through your bronchi and the trachea that leads air is released out of the body either through the nose or mouth.

Giving an Award to Briana

Dear Readers,
I would like to give a award to Briana because I think she did a amazing job writing describing and explaining how stink bugs were damaging the fruit farmers were trying to grow. Here is a link to http://brianaslearningden.blogspot.com. The reason why I gave Briana this award is because I really liked how she explained how stink bugs were damaging the fruit by sucking the sugar out of it to make it rotten. Another reason, I gave her this award is that when I read Briana's post there were a lot of things that I agreed with her like when she said " I think this is a major problem because I don't like my fruit to be disgusting. I agree with this because I wouldn't like my fruit either to be disgusting. Last reason, I liked to read her post is that she kept me reading the article titled "Bugs Who Love Bugs".

Deadly Virus Spreading from plants to honeybees

Dear Readers,
I finished a article called "Bees". There are three main points that the author supports with details from the article. The first main point is that there is a virus that is spreading from the bee to the plant. The second main point is deadly cocktail of the pathogens. The third main point is the bees colony falling apart.

Virus spreading from bee to plant
The first main point is that bees aren't able to reproduce. I think that this is a problem for the farmers because if they are trying to grow crops and the bees don't pollinate it the crops will die and there will be no food for humans or animals. "Fewer still have been known to jump from the plant kingdom to insects". "A rapidly mutating virus has spread from plants to bees". "That is, disease- causing microorganism".

Deadly Cocktail Of Pathogens
"It is carried by pollen causes disease in soy crops". "Only about 5 percent of plant viruses are known to be transmitted by pollen”. I think that if the virus keeps moving from the bee to the plant all the plants will die and there would be no food for the farmer or the animals. Also animals will die and there will be nothing left without bees."Further study revealed that the virus was replicating inside its honeybee hosts, and spreading to mites, tiny parasites similar to ticks. These mites live on bees and travel from bee to bee, thereby spreading the disease".

Bees Colony Collapsing and not being able to reproduce
"beekeepers now feed to bees instead of their own honey”."It found that this diet weakened the bees' immune system and made them less resistant to the effects of pesticides". I think that there will be nothing left for living things."Pollination is the process by which pollen is transported from the male to the female parts of plants, allowing for plant fertilization and reproduction".
