5th Grade Students Getting Spanked by the Teacher

  Hello Readers,
After reading the article,"Spanking Students May Soon Be Banned in Missouri". I have learned a lot about students in schools getting spanked in different schools, but in other schools they don't allow it because they think that it's not right to do. First, is how a fifth grade teacher named Jennifer  Kavanaugh says that she doesn't want kids to be spanked for misbehaving. Second, is deciding whether to spank kids for misbehaving or to do something different for the misbehavior. Lastly, is to reward kids for being good or to do something else when a kid is doing the wrong thing.

A Teacher wanting the spanking to stop
First of all, a fifth  grade teacher named Jennifer Kavanaugh who has been a teacher for 13 years says that she wants the spanking on 5th grade students to stop. I think this teacher wants the spanking on kids to stop because she thinks it's not okay  to do on students that are misbehaving. Too add on, there are teachers from different schools that also want the spanking to stop.  Jennifer Kavanaugh says "Corporal punishment  does not make for a more peaceful, happier child". "She never used corporal punishment herself, but she knows there are teachers across the state who do". ... "About 30 of her fifth-grade students attended a hearing Wednesday on a bill that would outlaw corporal punishment in the state". Jennifer wants the spanking to stop because the school she works is a school that does allow corporal punishment on students.

Deciding whether to Keep Spanking kids for Misbehaving or doing something Different
Next, I think that it's now okay to spank kids for misbehaving because maybe, the student getting spanked will tell their parents that they are being spanked at school.  Another reason, is how  the parents won't let their child to go to that school anymore if the teacher is  spanking him or she. School is a place that kids get to learn not to get spanked by the teacher for misbehaving . "Missouri is one of 19 states that still allows corporal punishment in schools". "District officials believe there are better ways the react to bad behavior". "They range from calling parents to suspending students or expelling students". Different schools that allow the spanking to students, but in other schools they think it's not okay to do. "Lorenzo Rizzi says "Corporal punishment doesn't change behavior".

Reward Students for being Good or Deal with Kids with Bad Behavior
Lastly, I think teachers from all over the world should reward kids that are being good and doing the right thing. Too add on, I think that it's not okay to spank any kid for misbehaving because the student might not want to go to school for the teacher spanking them. "Jennifer says, she wants to see teachers switch to rewarding students for good behavior". ..."About 184, 500 students were physically punished". "The lasted states to outlaw it were New Mexico in 2011 and in Ohio in 2009". "However, many districts in St. Louis don't area don not permit".  The districts in St. Louis that don't allow it are "Clayton, Lindbergh, River Gardens, and St. Louis itself". If students are getting spanked by the teacher then their parents should place them in a new school where the teachers don't allow corporal punishment.

I think this teacher wants the spanking to stop because spanking a kid for misbehaving wouldn’t make them happy. Also that maybe teachers from different schools think that it should stop too.

I think that it’s not okay to spank kids for misbehaving because if the kid tells their parents that the teachers are spanking he or she, the parents wouldn’t let their child go to that school anymore.

  1. Cynthia I like your post. I think you did a great job on your post. I also agree with you that parents should take their kids to another school were they won't allow corporal punishment. I think that you added a lot of information and people will understand your post.
